Feel Free to Parent: A respectful parenting workshop

Sunday May 5, 2024 - 10am - 12:30pm

VIRTUAL

Join Sarah DeLuca, LCSW and Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator, to learn practical tools to move away from yelling, time-outs, spanking, rewards, and punishments, and toward a more peaceful and connected relationship with your kids.

This workshop is experiential, so we will do exercises that help us better understand why our children act the way they do, and practice techniques that you can start using at home immediately. We will learn ways to effectively communicate with our kids and set limits and healthy boundaries while being kind and firm at the same time.

Positive Discipline can be applied across the span of parenting, from toddlers through teens, and this workshop will be specifically geared toward parents of kids ages 2-9.

$57 per person, plus 1 optional partner

Positive Discipline can be a “shift” in how many parents think about raising kids, since many of us were raised with mainstream techniques like time-outs and spanking. If you are parenting with a partner, I highly recommend both partners attend, since parenting always works better if you are on the same page. That being said, I am a parent of three young kids and I understand that it can be hard to find childcare, so I get it!

What is positive discipline?

Are you struggling with your child’s behavior but time-outs, taking away screens and yelling aren’t working? Do you dream of a world where you child makes good choices even when you aren’t looking?

Would you like to…

  • Yell less and have fewer power struggles?

  • Feel more connected to your child?

  • Understand why your children are acting the way they are?

  • Focus on solutions instead of punishments?

  • Raise confident, resilient and kind little humans?

Positive Discipline is based on mutual respect within the family, where parents are both kind and firm at the same time. It helps children develop a sense of significance and belonging through their connection with their parents. The characteristics and life skills that children develop when parents follow a positive discipline approach allow them to see how capable they are and feel encouraged to make good choices without external rewards.

“Where did we ever get the crazy idea that in order to make children do better, first we have to make them feel worse?”  – Jane Nelson, Founder of the Positive Discipline movement

Individualized Parenting Support Package

Are you ready to break down your parenting challenges and get personalized feedback to address them?

We will look at:

  • Your long term goals for parenting and why short term solutions (bribes, punishments, yelling etc) aren’t going to get you there.

  • How to identify the underlying needs your child is trying to meet through their behavior and how to address those needs so they don’t need to misbehave.

  • Why you are being triggered by your child’s behavior and how to stay more regulated (while modeling self-regulation for your kiddo).

  • How to repair with your child when you (inevitably) mess up. Positive Discipline does NOT require perfect parenting!

Four Session Package: $450 ($150 savings over full fee services)

Individual parent support is available in person in Fort Collins and virtually across Colorado and Texas.
